The first impression is always key at restaurants and with good Italian restaurants I typically gauge this by the bread and associated condiments served. I was a bit disappointed with the more light/fluffy bread that didn't match with what I would expect from a superb Italian place, i.e., rustic, crusty and chewy bread. However, the dipping marinara sauce for the bread was a nice match. I ordered the salad with Gorgonzola cheese and apples with a raspberry vinaigrette. A nice hefty size but could use a bit more acidity to match the cheese. The main course (boar ragu) was excellent and the highlight of the food with excellently cooked pasta. Overall, I would certainly go back but didn't have all my check boxes to receive an excellent review.

Deciding on what to have on our anniversary dinner we came across Buon Appetito in Little Italy. If your planning to enjoy this establishment come early. Being downtown you’ll have to find parking. It’ll be worth the wait for the meal you choose. Massimo was our waiter, his service was exquisite. Then enjoy your evening in Little Italy the atmosphere is very pleasant.

Fantastic food and good service in Little Italy. We had the pleasure of eating outside and the weather was perfect. Reasonable pricing. We were lucky and we're seated without a reservation, but based on how busy they became I would highly recommend one.

Quick and tasty meal, excellent service, with that Italian vibe that you want. Also, it is in a great location to walk off your (italian sized) meal by the waterfront. Enjoy! 😋

I ordered the special - a seafood ravioli with cream sauce and it was, hands down, one of the best meals I've had. I think about this ravioli all the time. I was with friends who also thought their meals were really great, so I'd recommend trying this place out!

The food was delicious from the darn bread to desert. We enjoyed every bite. The dipping sauce with the bread is a little spicy which was so good! It's tomato based too which I liked. I had the wild boar ragu and I greatly enjoyed it. My boyfriend had the beef stuffed shell pasta and he liked it too! We had the ricotta chocolate cake for desert and I had mine with a cup of espresso. Delicious. I really wanted to go to Little Italy while in San Diego because i have never been there before and I wanted some place that had some old Italian charm and this place fit the bill :)

Let me start by saying, I'm not a big fan of Italian food. I was with a group that wanted to try this place so I joined. I'm glad I did. The food was delicious. Even my salad seemed way better than most salads I've had. The house dressing was excellent. I had the swordfish and it literally tasted like a white beef streak. All of the food was very good. My party got the more classic Italian dishes and they loved it.

Good restaurant in the Gas Lamp Quarter, although it was a bit on the expensive side. The ravioli was really good, while the gnocchi and pasta were average. This place is known for its cannoli, and for good reason, so definitely try that. Finding parking in the area was a pain, and the restaurant tends to get crowded during peak times so I recommend reservations.

Authenticity, Ambiance, & hospitality. I came to town for a business conference and decided to stay in Little Italy. Italian is my favorite type of food and I typically seek out mom & pop hole in the walls. WELL, this is definitely not a hole in the wall but the freshly made, slow simmered Mariana was to die for. The warm bread and smell of garlic made you feel like you were in a cozy restaurant (even though it was a bit crowded). I called ahead and they were able to fit my party of 4 in with less than 10 minutes notice. Amazing service, food, and quality experience. Highly recommend!

Wonderful Italian cuisine that won't break the bank!We arrived to our reservation a tad early and the staff sat us immediately. Very helpful the entire visit. The bread and Marinara starter you get, before food comes out, is stellar! I would highly recommend any of the pasta's that have seafood in them. Expect a fun and cute experience at around $20-$30 per person.

Came here for the pasta and was not disappointed. Flavors on point, even for the simplest of dishes like the dipping sauce for the bread. The portions to me were large which is awesome because the best part of a pasta dish is the pasta noodles! I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The restaurant is located just outside the busiest area of Little Italy. It wasn't crowded for me, even after an hour and a half from when they opened. The prices are pretty normal for Italian cuisine ($15+) but I think the quality and quantity is worth it. I also like how it's casual dining, so no need to worry too much about what you wear.

Nice Italian restaurant located in Little Italy, San Diego. Busy spot, recommend reservations! Fairly small dining room with seating outdoors under heat lamps. Food portions were large, wine list ample. A bit noisy for intimate conversation.

Wow just wow. Amazing all around. To start off with the picture below do not let the size of the plate underestimate the amount of food you receive. Lots of choices on the menu for all sorts of classic Italian foods.(With some names I couldn’t even pronounce lol) The restaurant is on the small side but it does give it a home feeling style and its very well maintained. Service is great and food quality is 5 starts with soft texture and a perfect amount of sauce without over doing it. Highly recommended

Absolutely fantastic! Everything is authentic. Presentation and taste were top notch. Wonderful place for a few friends to meet, date night, or they can accommodate larger parties too (for those big Italian families 😉). Don't forget to walk to the adjoining market to bring home some goodies too!

Best Italian restaurant in San Diego. They serve so much more than pasta. Their seafood and steaks are unparalleled. They also have lamb and vegetarian dishes. Outstanding wine selection also.

Date night. Good, filling, savory dishes with high-quality service and intimate ambience... despite the touristy nature of the surrounding neighborhood. Anything Ragu is worth getting, and be sure to ask what the homemade pastas are.

Great Italian restaurant in Little Italy San Diego. Excellent crusty bread made in house. Chiopinno was full of sea food and served in a tomato sauce. Get extra bread to sop up the leftovers.

The minestrone soup was luke warm and tasted strongly of pesto. The lentil soup was pipping hot and good. The brick oven pizza was fast and cooked in a beautiful titled brick oven. They have a most excellent array of desserts and treats they made in a huge display. Very close to the pick up and drop off spot for the San Diego trolley.

Excellent service, reasonable prices, very good size portions. Italian comfort food (at least that is what makes you feel). Good ambiance but it's a very small place, better make reservation ahead.

Great food. Good service. These are actually two restaurants connected by a corridor. There is a single seat restroom. One men's, one women's, that are shared between both restaurants. Good luck if you have to go. Service is friendly but spotty. You can wait up to 10 minutes for a restroom. Make sure you go before you get here. Lost stars due to restrooms primarily. Food is spectacular however.

As for the romantic setting it says on Yelp, I do not know if I would say it is. The atmosphere is great but I will say it was a little loud, not a complaint, as romantic is not exactly what we were going for. We did sit in the front section of the building and I did notice there is a back portion to the restaurant so perhaps that back section is more secluded and quiet?

Fine food in a casual atmosphere. Ordered the duck entree in a sweet and sour cranberry sauce. Wife got the filet mignon in a creamy mushroom sauce. It was super savory. DEFINITELY get the escargot appetizer, the sauce is amazing. Our server recommended a nicely balanced red wine; their list of Bordeauxs is short but quality. Cafe Beaujolais has been around longer than many on Colorado Blvd., but it's more than kept pace with the competition.

Very kind service, with a cute Italian atmosphere. Buon Appetito is in the heart of Little Italy on India street. They have a small patio area for outside seating lined with christmas lights and inside seating as well. I had the chicken and mushroom farfalle in a creamy mushroom sauce. Fast, attentive service.

Buon Appetito is a very nice neighborhood northern Italian restaurant. Our party shared a very nice wine from Abruzzo, a variety of entrees from cheese and spinach ravioli to fresh sea bass served over polenta in a tasty mushroom sauce. Desserts, espresso, competent and friendly service, and a bustling but relaxed atmosphere made for a very enjoyable evening. We would definitely like to dine here again!

One of the first Italian restaurants you see walking from the East side of little Italy. Nice cozy and small restaurant with a few outdoor seats. The tomato sauce for the complimentary bread was great. We had ordered the spaghetti and duck pasta dishes. Felt like there was too much duck for the dish. The eggplant starter did not disappoint. The waiters were Italians which give the restaurant an authenticity about it. They do not talk much and are straight to the point which was my only concern.

Great food and casual Italian cuisine. Quaint outside seating is good when the weather is normal. Inside seating is a bit crowded during their busy 7pm evening time, but otherwise fine. Attentive waiters and nice atmosphere. Their Prima Vera with Creme sauce and vegetables dish is very good. Recommended.
